हाम्रो बारेमा

नेपाल बहुजातीय, बहुभाषिक, बहु–सांस्कृतिक धनी देश हो । विश्व मानचित्रमा नेपाल भौगालिक रुपमा सानो भएपनि सांस्कृतिक रुपमा बिशाल रहेको छ । नेपाल भित्र फुलेको सुन्दर जातिय फुलहरु मध्ये मगर जाति नेपालका आदिवासी समुदायहरूमा सबैभन्दा बढी संख्या भएको आदिवासी हो भने मौलिक कला , ज्ञान , परम्परा, संस्कार र संस्कृतिको धनी जाति हो । नेपालका मगर समुदाय विश्वभर छरिएर रहेकाछन । विश्वभर छरिएर रहेका मगरहरुको आधारभूत मौलिकताहरू एकै भएपनि भेषभुसा , भाषिक र सांस्कृतिक रुपमा बिबिधता छ । बिबिधतामा एकता नै मगर जतिको सुन्दरता हो भने निश्वार्थ, सहयोगी भावना, कोमल हृदय मगर व्यक्तित्व परिचय हो ।मगरहरू मेहनती, ईमान्दारिता र वीरताको लागि सुपरिचित छन्। मगरहरु पश्चिम र मध्यपश्चिम नेपालको पहाडी तथा मध्य हिमालयन क्षेत्रमा सघन बसोबास रहेको छ भने नेपालको ७७ जिल्लामै मगरहरुको बसोबास रहेको छ । सदियौं बर्षदेखि भुटान, बर्मा, भारत, मलेसिया , थाइल्याण्ड लगायत अन्य देशमा पनि मगर जतिको बसोबास रहेको छ । मगर जातिको उत्पति कहिले कसरी भयो अर्थात मगर जाति कहिलेदेखि किन भनियो भन्ने सन्दर्भमा बिभिन्न मौखिक कथा र किंवदन्तीहरु त पाइन्छ तर बैज्ञानिक र यथार्थपरक ऐतिहासिक तथ्यहरु अहिलेसम्म पाइएको छैन । इतिहासको कालखण्डहरुमा मगर भाषा, संस्कार संस्कृति मास्न राज्य पक्षबाट नै भएको हुनाले मगरहरुले आफ्नो लिखित दस्ताबेजहरु गुमाउन पुग्यो । मगरहरुको एकै किसिमको इतिहास छैन बरु इतिहासहरु छन अर्थात एउटै जाति बिबिध इतिहास नै मगर जातिको बिशेषता हो ।

मगर भाषा
मगरहरुको आफ्नै मातृभाषा रहेको छ । मगर ढुट , मगर खाम र काइके÷पोइके गरेर तिन भाषा प्रचलित छ । रिडी पारीका मगरहरु १२ मगरात मगर दुट भाषिक, रिडी वारीका मगरहरु १८ मगरात मगर खाम भाषिक र डोल्पा क्षेत्रका तराली मगरहरु काइके÷पोइके भाषिक हुन ।

मगर भेषभुसा
‘‘मगर ढुट’’ बोल्ने क्षेत्रका मगरहरु पुरुषले ढाका टोपी, सेतो टिसर्ट, भाङरा, पेटी, घरबुना कछाड इत्यादी र महिलाहरुले नाकामा फुली ÷ बुलाकी, रैया, पहेलो पोते, रातो चोली, निलो घलेकी, पहेलो पटुकी, लुङगी लगाउछन ।
‘‘मगर खाम’’ बोल्ने क्षेत्रका मगरहरु पुरुषले अहिलेको समयमा कालो चौबन्दी, रातो स्टाकोट, छप्के (सुर), उनको बाक्लो रंगिन पटुकी र महिलाहरु रातो चौबन्दी, कालो गाडा (सुर), पहेलो पटुकी, पहेलो पोते, लुङगी, कानमा गोखर या मारुली, सुका या मोहोर माला, नाकामा फुली÷बुलाकी लगाउछन ।
‘‘तराली मगर’’ काईके÷पोइके भाषिक मगरहरुको पुरुष पहिरनमा दउरा–सुरुवाल, उनको बाक्लो पटुकी, जुवारी–कोट, काने–टोपी र महिलाहरु लुङगी, चोलो, पटुकी, टाउकोमा बर्को र पछ्यौरा, मुगाको माला (युरु), तिरौली (तिलौरी), चौकी (चन्द्रहारा), धुप (बाला), सिक्का माला (रेजी) आदि लगाउने गर्दछन ।

मगरका पर्व÷सांस्कृतिक नृत्य
‘‘मगर दुट’’ भाषिक क्षेत्रतिर माघे संक्रान्ति, चैते दशैँ, चण्डी भुयार, साउने संक्रान्ति, तिहार, पन्द्र पुस पर्वको रुपमा प्रचलित छ भने कानराह (कौराह), झाम्रे, सालैजो, सोरठी, मारुनी, हुर्र्रा, इत्यादि सांस्कृतिक नृत्यको रुपमा प्रचलित छ ।
‘‘मगर खाम’’ भाषिक तिर माघ सङराती, चैते दशैँ, भूमे पर्व, साउने सकराती पर्वको रुपमा प्रचलित छ भने भूमे नाच, सोरठी, जाम्रे, सराङगे, पैसेरु, मयुर इत्यादि सांस्कृतिक नृत्यको रुपमा प्रचलित छ ।
‘‘तराली मगर’’हरुमा पर्वहरु छेगो÷छैगो रुङ, माघे संक्रान्ति, रुङ्मा, रुम्जोई याचा, साउन पुनि, खल्मि÷खैमिलि इत्यादी र सांस्कृतिक नृत्यको रुपमा बा छ्याम÷ग्रुम्चा÷भामे नाच, च्योएकोर, मुखौटा नाच, नर्भु नाच, इत्यादि प्रचलित छन ।

मगर संघ अमेरिका
नेपालका मगरहरु विश्वको कुना–कुनामा फैलिदै, संगठित हुदैं मगर भाषा, मौलिक कला, संस्कार र संस्कृतिको सुवासिलो सुधन्ध फैलाउदै आएका छन । मगर संघ अमेरिकाको स्थापना मगर समुदायको भाषा, भेषभुषा, संस्कृति, परम्पराको संरक्षण गर्न र भइपरि आउदा हातेमालो गर्ने , आफ्नो अमेरिकी सपना साकार पार्न अमेरिका बसाई सरेका मगरहरू साथै उनीहरूको अमेरिकामै जन्मिएका सन्ततिहरुमा भावनात्मक एकताको लागि गरिएको हो ।
मातृभूमि नेपालबाट आएर अमेरिकालाई कर्मथलो बनाई बिभिन्न राज्यहरूमा बसोबास गर्दै आएका मगरहरुको संस्कार, संस्कृतिलाई संरक्षण र सम्बद्र्वन गर्ने, बिबिधता रहेको भाषा र साँस्कृतिक भावनाहरू र एकिकृत सपना जोड्न मगर संघ अमेरिकाको स्थापना गरिएको छ । विश्वको वैभवशाली र शक्तिशाली राष्ट्र संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिकामा ५० राज्यमै मगरहरुको बसोबस रहेको अनुमान छ ।

“यि समग्र मगरहरुको साझा घर, साझा आस्थाको केन्द्र हो मगर संघ अमेरिका”

मिति २०६०÷१२÷१५ (मार्च २८, २००४) मा नेपाली र नेपाली अमेरिकन मुलका मगर समुदायले न्यूयोर्क सहरमा साधारण सभा सम्पन्न गरि “मगर संघ अमेरिका, इन्क.“ (पूर्व नामः लाङ्घाली संघ अमेरिका, इन्क.) नामक एक अविछिन्न उत्तराधिकारवाला, संघठित, स्वशासित, गैर–नाफामूलक, गैर–राजनीतिक तथा गैर–सरकारी सेवामुलक सामाजिक संस्थाको स्थापना गरेका थिए । सन २०१० सम्म लाङ्घाली संघ अमेरिका, इन्क.को रुपमा रहेको संस्था सन २०१० अक्टोबर २४ मा न्युजर्शी राज्यमा सम्पन्न ऐतिहासिक चौंथो राष्ट्रिय महाधिबेशनबाट स्थापना कालको नामलाई परिवर्तन गरेर मगर संघ अमेरिका इंक नामाकरण गरियो । स्थापना कालादेखि २०१६ सम्म मगर संघ अमेरिका र यस मातहत बिभिन्न विभागहरु रहेको थियो भने सन २०१६ देखि केन्द्रीय समिति र च्याप्टर कमिटीको अबधारणा अगाडी सार्दै बिभिन्न राज्यहरुमा च्याप्टर कमिटीहरु गठन गर्ने कार्य सुरु गरियो ।

यसका प्रमुख उद्देश्यहरू निम्नानुसार रहने छन्ः
 संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिकामा बसोबास गर्ने मगरहरू बीच समन्वय र सहकार्य कायम गर्नु ।
 बिभिन्न क्षेत्रका मगर बिज्ञहरुलाई समेटेर कार्यशाला, सेमिनार, खेलकुद, अन्तरक्रिया र सांस्कृतिक कार्यक्रमहरू आयोजना गरेर मगरहरूको भाषा र सांस्कृतिक सम्पदाको संरक्षण तथा प्रवद्र्धन गर्ने ।
 प्राकृतिक प्रकोप वा मानवीय संकटको समयमा मगर समुदाय र अन्य पीडितहरूलाई सहायता गर्ने ।
 नेपालका दूरदराजका बिपन्न परिवार , पिछडिएका महिला तथा बालबालिकाहरु , शिक्षा तथा स्वास्थ्य सुविधाहरुबाट बन्चित व्यक्तिहरुलाई उपयुक्त योजनाहरु संचालन गरेर नेपाल मगर संघ लगायत सम्बन्धित समकक्षी संस्थाहरु संग सहकार्य गर्ने ।
 “मगर यू.एस.ए छात्रवृत्ति कोष” स्थापना गरी प्रत्येक वर्ष संयुक्त राज्यभरका उत्कृष्ट मगर विद्यार्थीहरूलाई छात्रवृत्ति प्रदान गर्ने,
 संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका भरका अन्य नेपाली संघसंस्थाहरू सँग मित्रवत् र भाइचारा सम्बन्धहरू स्थापना गर्ने ।
 मगर संघले गरेका गतिबिधिहरु सबै संग साझा गर्न वेबसाइट सञ्चालन गर्ने ।
 मगरहरू र तिनका परिवारहरूलाई सहयोग गर्न कोष, ट्रस्ट वा विभागको स्थापना गर्ने ।
 स्थानीय सरकार तथा गैर–नाफामूलक संस्थाहरूसँग सहकार्य गरेर स्थानीय समुदायका र संघका सदस्यहरूको हितका लागि कार्य गर्ने ।
 मगर संस्कार संस्कृति पर्वद्र्वन , शिक्षा र रोजगारीका अवसरहरूको लागि युवामुखी कार्यक्रमहरू आयोजना गर्ने ।

मगर संघ अमेरिका केन्द्रिय समिति र च्याप्टरहरू संग समन्वय र सहकार्य गरी आफ्नो लक्ष र परियोजनाहरू सम्पन्न गर्न सकिने कुरामा विश्वास राख्दछ । मगर समुदायको सेवामा समर्पित गर्न संघ प्रतिबद्ध र सक्षम छ। उज्जवल भविष्यको निम्ति एक्यवद्धता जाहेर गरौं।

About Us
Nepal is a country rich in multi-ethnic, multi-lingual, and multi-cultural diversity. Although Nepal is geographically small on the world map, it is culturally vast. Among the beautiful ethnic flowers blooming within Nepal, the Magar community is the most populous indigenous group and is a community rich in original art, knowledge, tradition, rites, and culture. Nepal’s Magar community is scattered throughout the world. Although the fundamental originality of the Magars scattered worldwide is the same, there is diversity in attire, language, and culture. Unity in diversity is the beauty of the Magar people, while selflessness, a helpful spirit, and a kind heart are the introduction to the Magar personality. Magars are well-known for being hardworking, honest, and brave. Magars have a dense settlement in the hilly and mid-Himalayan regions of western and mid-western Nepal, and Magars reside in all 77 districts of Nepal. For centuries, Magars have also resided in Bhutan, Burma, India, Malaysia, Thailand, and other countries. Regarding when and how the Magar ethnicity originated, or since when and why they were called Magar, various oral stories and legends are found, but scientific and realistic historical facts have not yet been found. In periods of history, because the state itself was involved in destroying the Magar language, rites, and culture, the Magars lost their written documents. Magars do not have one single history; rather, they have histories. That is, one community with diverse histories is the specialty of the Magar people.

Magar Language

Magars have their own mother tongue. Three languages are prevalent: Magar Dhut, Magar Kham, and Kaike/Poike. The Magars across the Ridi (river) are 12 Magarat Magar Dhut speakers, the Magars on this side of Ridi are 18 Magarat Magar Kham speakers, and the Tarali Magars of the Dolpa region are Kaike/Poike speakers.

Magar Attire

In the “Magar Dhut” speaking region, men wear a Dhaka topi (cap), white t-shirt, Bhangra (a cloth worn cross-bodied), a belt, home-woven Kachhad (loincloth), etc., and women wear Phuli/Bulaki (nose pins), Raiya, yellow pote (beads), a red Choli (blouse), a blue Ghaleki (shawl), a yellow Patuki (waistband), and Lungi (sarong). In the “Magar Kham” speaking region, men currently wear a black Chaubandi (a type of shirt), a red Stakot (waistcoat), Chhapke (Sur) (trousers), a thick, colorful woolen Patuki (waistband), and women wear a red Chaubandi, black Gada (Sur) (trousers), a yellow Patuki, yellow pote, Lungi, Gokhar or Maruli (earrings), Suka or Mohor Mala (coin necklace), and Phuli/Bulaki (nose pins). Among the “Tarali Magar” Kaike/Poike speakers, men’s attire includes Daura-Suruwal, a thick woolen Patuki, Juwari-Kot (coat), Kane-Topi (cap), and women wear Lungi, Cholo (blouse), Patuki, a Barko (shawl) and Pachhyaura (shawl) on their head, Muga ko Mala (Yuru – coral necklace), Tirauli (Tilauri), Chauki (Chandrahar – moon necklace), Dhup (Bala – bangles), Sikka Mala (Reji – coin necklace), etc.

Magar Festivals/Cultural Dances

In the “Magar Dhut” linguistic region, Maghe Sankranti, Chaite Dashain, Chandi Bhuyar, Saune Sankranti, Tihar, and Pandra Push are prevalent as festivals, while Kanraha (Kaurah), Jhamre, Salaijo, Sorathi, Maruni, Hurra, etc., are prevalent as cultural dances. In the “Magar Kham” linguistic region, Magh Sankranti, Chaite Dashain, Bhume Parva, and Saune Sakrati are prevalent as festivals, while Bhume dance, Sorathi, Jamre, Sarange, Paiseru, Mayur (peacock dance), etc., are prevalent as cultural dances. Among “Tarali Magars,” festivals include Chhego/Chhaigo Rung, Maghe Sankranti, Rungma, Rumjoi Yacha, Saun Puni, Khalmi/Khaimili, etc., and cultural dances like Ba Chhyam/Grumcha/Bhame dance, Chyoekor, Mask dance, Narbhu dance, etc., are prevalent.

Magar Association America

Magars from Nepal, spreading to every corner of the world, are organizing and spreading the sweet fragrance of Magar language, original arts, rites, and culture. Magar Association America was established to preserve the language, attire, culture, and traditions of the Magar community, to lend a helping hand in times of need, and for the emotional unity of Magars who have migrated to America to realize their American dream, as well as their children born in America. Magar Association America was established to connect the diverse linguistic and cultural sentiments and unified dreams of Magars who have come from their motherland Nepal, made America their working ground, and are living in various states, by preserving and promoting their rites and culture. It is estimated that Magars reside in all 50 states of the world’s wealthy and powerful nation, the United States of America.

“Magar Association America is the common home, the common center of faith for all these Magars”

On March 28, 2004 (2060/12/15 BS), the Nepali and Nepali-American Magar community held a general assembly in New York City and established an organized, autonomous, non-profit, non-political, and non-governmental service-oriented social organization with perpetual succession named “Magar Association America, Inc.” (Formerly named: Langhali Association America, Inc.). The organization, which was known as Langhali Association America, Inc. until 2010, was renamed Magar Association America, Inc. by the historic 4th National General Convention held in New Jersey on October 24, 2010, changing its founding name. From its establishment until 2016, Magar Association America had various departments under it, while from 2016, the concept of a Central Committee and Chapter Committees was put forward, and the work of forming Chapter Committees in various states began.

Its main objectives shall be as follows:
 To maintain coordination and cooperation among Magars residing in the United States of America.
 To preserve and promote the language and cultural heritage of Magars by organizing workshops, seminars, sports, interactions, and cultural programs involving Magar experts from various fields.
 To provide assistance to the Magar community and other victims during times of natural disaster or humanitarian crisis.
 To collaborate with the Magar Association Nepal and related counterpart organizations by operating suitable plans for remote and poor families, backward women and children, and individuals deprived of education and health facilities in Nepal.
 To establish a “Magar U.S.A Scholarship Fund” and provide scholarships to outstanding Magar students across the United States each year,
 To establish friendly and fraternal relationships with other Nepali organizations throughout the United States of America.
 To operate a website to share the activities of the Magar Association with everyone.
 To establish funds, trusts, or departments to support Magars and their families.
 To work for the benefit of the local community and the association’s members by collaborating with local government and non-profit organizations.
 To organize youth-oriented programs for the promotion of Magar rites and culture, education, and employment opportunities.

Magar Association America believes that it can accomplish its goals and projects by coordinating and collaborating with the Central Committee and Chapters.
